A Little Bit Of Home

Ever since my arrival here, there have been voices and whispers reminding me of all the good food I left behind in Kuching.

There have been constant reminders of delicacies that are nowhere to be found here. Delicacies like char kueh tiaw, laksa, char sio rice, kolo mee, beef noodle, the various kuih-muih, etc. There's fried rice here but angmo-made fried rice is hovering a bare milimeter above the suck-so-much-you-can't-eat-it threshold.

But wait!

Look look! LOOK!

Prawns! Egg slices! Chicken slices! Soup in a pot! What could this possibly be?

What's this?

*insert angelic chorus*

Laksa! Ah, the world seems a brighter place now.

Much as I would like to claim it as my own cooking, I have to give credit to the genius cooking skills of Rachel Chia. And the hospitality of Jacqueline (something. I don't know her surname), for letting her house be the venue for gorging down laksa.

And it tastes really authentic, too ;)

Side Order: It's Friday the 13th!! OooOooOoo~!

Uwaaa! I miss S'wak laksa! But maybe not as much as kueh chap. Hehe..

The only laksa I found here is the Semenanjung M'sia laksa from a M'sian/S'porean shop called "Laksa King". XD

Eric,
I know. And the lime. It's really difficult to find Asian ingredients here. Even the Asian grocers are limited in their range of goods.

Misc^2,
Hahaha. Is it any good? I don't really trust the 'Malaysian food' sold in 'Malaysian restaurants'. So far they fall waaay short of the standard.

My theory is that the Malaysian restaurants here are owned by people who couldn't make it big in Malaysia =P

How mean! XP

For all you know, they might be one of the best and know that if they were to open a business back home, it won't rake as much profit and they would not be paid to their standard.

Heh!

Misc^2,
That could be a valid point. Although it is a bit against Malaysian mentality! Ok ok I am stereotyping here. But most Chinese food I've had here (other than the ones I've cooked =P) has sucked.
