Oh! Down Under!

It has been a week since I started treading Perth soil.

I'll be honest. Perth has been great. I still love Kuching btw. The first thing I noticed was the difference in the climate here. It's currently the middle of summer, and temperatures are at their highest but... Well, the Perth version of 'hot' is really different from Malaysia's version. It's hot, but one rarely sweats. I guess this is due to the dryness of the air.

The air in Perth is dry. When I say dry, I mean REALLY dry. Keeping oneself hydrated is essential. I've been drinking water like crazy (way more than the recommended eight glasses a day) but my luscious lips are still cracking. Currently using petroleum jelly to prevent the cracking from getting any worse.

And then there's the wind. No air-cond in Swinburne can compare to the Perth Winds. On cooler days, the wind rattles the bones. At the beaches, the wind is strong enough to 'nudge' one to move in a certain direction. If I'm any lighter, I probably can parasail without the parachute! Hahaha. Why am I so skinny omg.

A lot of people have been asking me where I am staying in Perth. Answer:

VERY FAR!

It takes like an hour and a half to go from my place to university. In the mornings, I take about 15 minutes' walk to reach the nearest bus stand where I take a 10 minute bus ride to Morley Bus Station. I then take another bus to UWA, which takes about one hour. If you add in the waiting time and delays, it takes about two hours to get from my place to university. Because of this, we're really keen on moving to another place that's nearer to UWA.

A big shame, really. Morley (that's the suburb we're in) is a really nice place to stay in. It's a family-oriented neighborhood and is really peaceful. There's also a shopping center nearby that has got everything one needs to buy, so shopping for supplies isn't a problem. That's one of the good things about Perth, really. The suburbs are all self-sustaining. One can live their entire lives without ever seeing Perth City. Hmm.. Come to think of it, Kwang Yang and I have not been down to the city since we moved out! Maybe only once, but that was us trying out a new bus route.

Anyway, I'm going to end this post here. I'll write more next time. And hopefully with some pictures! Sorry, Jacq. No pictures of my housemates yet. Didn't know you're so interested. Haha.

Side Order: Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Remember, people. You don't need to wait till Valentine's Day to show your affection for someone. Every day can be Valentine's Day if you want it to be =)

That sounds like you're writing a letter to your friends here in Kuching.

Anyhow, I'll be awaiting the good news about you and Kwang Yang successfully decrease the travel time to the uni.
