Updated! Click here.

I just came back from an appointment with a representative of UWA. Lately, I've been making inquiries with many representatives from various Australian universities. Just wanna compare the offers of each university before I send in my applications for credit transfer.

So far, UWA has offered the best promises. After looking through my SPM, Foundation and Degree transcripts, she said that I may be entitled to FULL CREDIT TRANSFER! That means I may not need to take any extra semesters. She even said that I probably do not even need to take IELTS test - a test I was dreading, considering my English isn't what it once was. But she said my MUET results and my GCE 'O' Level English results are probably sufficient to fulfill the language requirements so everything's daisies and lilies.

However, the representative said that she can't be absolutely certain of these promises, as the final word belongs to UWA's Head of Engineering Faculty. As luck would have it, this guy will be in town tomorrow! So I've arranged a meet with this dude. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that all these are not blank promises.

Compared to my previously-first-choice Uni, Uni of Adelaide, UWA seems like the choice to take. Uni Adelaide said I probably won't get full credits and would probably only get one and a half years of credits, maximum.

Hmm. Looks like it will be a February in Perth then. Sze Howe and Poh Sim, red carpet aa =P

[Update!]
Met with Dr. Kamy just now. He decided to conduct a mini interview for me right then and there! No warning, no prior announcement so I could prepare myself mentally, nothing. Hahaha. Well, the good news is that he says there shouldn't be any problem for me getting full credits. Hurrah. The bad news is that there's a condition. I am only entitled for full credits if my results have nothing less than a Distinction. Thanks for the extra pressure -_-"

Side Order: Yesterday afternoon was great fun. There were stutters, speed of light speeches, case line surprises and feelings of rejection for having every POI turned down. But I understand that that was probably due to the fact that the stopwatches seemed to be running too fast yesterday! -_-" But in the end, I think everyone in the room learnt a great deal about themselves and about debate. And that's the main objective of the friendly match yesterday =)

Oooh, UWA is a very excellent university. I did come across it while doing my own tertiary education research. It's in the Australian Group Eight. That's like the American Ivy League or UK Rusell Group, so there's definitely quality there at UWA. It's also one of those sandstone universities in Australia, very prestigious.

Since you are doing a full credit transfer, how many years are you doing over there? Two?

Speaking of rejections, did everyone really turned you down? You poor thing. I remembered accepting only two, so did I reject yours as well? Although in my mind, I think I accepted yours? Or maybe my memory sucks. Who knows?

Anyways, hopefully you get accepted into UWA. If anyone deserves it, you do. Your academic prowess back when you were in secondary school was legendary. And I'm sure your level English is not that bad, it's very good actually. More than enough for you to cope with life at Australia. Good luck and best wishes!

Dienasty,
Thanks.

Sam,
Haha. I KNOW. But eight minutes really felt awfully quick that day. It's probably just because there's really too much stuff to say!

Gladly. =)

Hope your meeting with the engineering dean goes well!

(random fact: I've never met him before... only spoken to the sub-dean)

Eh, wait...

In the event that you pick UWA, when will you fly over? Cuz I'll be in America until 17 Feb.

Tracy,
Yeah. I did some reading up on the Uni too. That's why I went through all the trouble of making an appointment and all that. And there's also the fact that my brother graduated from there.

I'll be going over in my third year. Hopefully, I get full credits and will be able to resume as a third year student. If that's the case then yeah, I'll be there for two years. May or may not be returning to Kuching after that, depending on the job prospects in Australia.

And yes, you rejected my POI. All three of you rejected my POIs. Haha.

Thanks for the wishes and confidence boost =)

Axfangli,
The guy's name is Dr. Kamy Cheng. My brother says that he speaks funny and gives boring lectures. Know him?

As for my date of departure.. Don't know yet. Depends on when the new semester starts. I guess I will only know as next year draws closer, or when (IF) I get my offer letter.

Hmm...following your brother's footsteps huh? :)At least now if I go to Perth I know where to bunk at lol

Ah_Mike,
Haha yeah. I guess you can say that. But UWA seems to offer the best deal and who would wanna pass up a good deal? ;)

Ezekiel,
You're taking Geomechanics too, right? That means we'll have TWO classes together. And er, I prefer to remember 13 June. 'Cos that's my brother's birthday!

Keith,
Thanks. But I can't be certain about the 'fun' part. For all we know, I might end up with the two worst years of my academic career. I mean, I am sure that UWA maintains super high standards. Pressure pressure! And er. Don't think I will miss the gay hugs. Hahaha.

aahahaha.. uwa huh?

Gotta hate Mr Kamy Cheng. He screwed up my timetable and caused plenty of issues for my first semester there. Do remember that whatever schedule he will be giving you, can be modified if you have justified reasons on your own. Do not follow whatever he throws at you blindly.

Well, looking at the bright side, UWA is indeed a great uni, I am sure your brother can testify to that. Plus hes got good connections there too, so ur start-up would have been easier in Perth compared to Adelaide.

What I think is that, you will most likely wont be escaping your IELTS. Do notice that their requirements for IELTS are slightly higher than other universities. But fear not aldrin, acing your IELTS will look GREAT on your resume, trust me, it is one heck of a level higher than MUET.

Looking at your level of English, you could easily surpass me. I got Band 8, Mike also did, so there should be no problem for you to get better than me !!

Robin,
Well, Dr. Kamy DOES look the blur blur sort. And he speaks kinda funny. From what I've seen, I'm gonna take my brother's word that he gives terribly boring lectures!

Ah, the good thing is that he specifically told me that GCE 'O' Level is sufficient! And the prospectus said the same thing too. No matter what grade I can possibly get, it is ALWAYS better to not need to take the test at all right? Haha.

And IELTS is only valid for two years, no?

Aquavires said...

C'mon, be honest... are you ACTUALLY worried about the "Distinction" lower limit?

saykhia said...

Axfangli,
Yes I am. Because there is a VERY REAL CHANCE of getting a C tomorrow (results will be published tomorrow). And subjects ARE getting harder and harder!

Aquavires said...

Fingers crossed, then. Good luck!

saykhia said...

Axfangli,
Yeah. Thanks

Aquavires said...

Third year or second year?

saykhia said...

Axfangli,
Third year. Haha. But of course, I still have one more set of results that I need to keep above the lower limit (next semester's). For now, I will try to get a conditional acceptance into the uni so that I can book a space for campus residence!

Aquavires said...

Congrats! :-) Make sure you keep up the good work, then.

Axfangli,
Thanks. I will work hard!
