Divine Tolerance

Finally, another update in Aldrin's seemingly lifeless blog.

In fact, I am quite surprised that there are actually people who still chat in my chatbox! But this Johnson keeps on dissing me. -_-"

Last Sunday, I went to church alone. Someone was supposed to accompany me, but that someone managed PPK me without even batting an eyelid. He even left me waiting outside his house without even a word. Heartless!

Anyways, since I attended church without any distractions, I managed to pay extra attention to the sermon. While the other church goers were holding open their eyelids with matchsticks and/or busy nodding off to sleep, Saykhia here listened attentively to the priest! C'mon. Give me some praise, people. To my surprise, the sermon on that day was actually quite interesting!

WARNING! Some religious content ahead. Proceed at your own risk.

He focused on a certain event that occured not too long ago. Apparently, a Tamil newspaper had the nerve to publish a caricature of Jesus holding a can of beer in one hand and cigarettes in the other. This publication sparked an outrage in the Christian community and led to the suspension of that newspaper for an indefinite amount of time. Basically that means kena banned already lar. This reminds us of what happened to a certain Sarawak Tribune, yea? ;)

Well, Father Aeries said that perhaps all this suspension thing is really unnecessary. He says that it is understandable for the community to rise up to challenge the motives of this caricature degrading Jesus. However, he implores us all to ask: What Would Jesus Do?

At the end of Jesus' time on Earth, He was constantly humilliated by those around Him. The gospels tell of the ill treatments He received; being spat in the face, called names, beaten, and ultimately, to be condemned to death by crucifixion. And through all this, never once did He raise a fist, nor did He spell out curses. Instead, He just took them all patiently. And, while on the cross, He even prayed to God, "Forgive them, for the know not what they are doing."

So, perhaps Father Aeries is right. Perhaps we all should learn to take this to heart, and then let it go. What good would it do if that newspaper received a suspension? Nothing except that the staff will lose their jobs, and fathers will have to look for new jobs to feed the mouths at home. Is that what Jesus expects of us? Certainly not.

The Divine Powers upstairs understand this. Perhaps that is why there's no lightning bolt from Heaven yonder striking and burning down that newspaper company. There has been no such accounts anyways. Father Aeries said that maybe Jesus saw the caricature in the newspaper (Jesus reads Tamil, you know) and thought, "so what if they draw such a cartoon of me. I have gone through worst things before!".

Thus, my point is this: perhaps such things should be taken on a lighter note. Maybe there is more to faith than just pious devotion to Him. Maybe true faith means that we are able to be both religious AND open-minded about the Powers That Be.

"Rats! I thought I was in luck when it landed in the water!"

That is what I have always believed in anyways.

WARNING! If you are sensitive about religious issues, proceed no further. Really. Stop now.

Here's a video I dug up from Youtube that is EXTREMELY funny. However, I must warn you that this video is not for those who can't take religion jokes.

You have been warned.

*holds breath* Here comes the flak.

I agree. If Jesus hasn't done anything. We'd have to assume he doesn't want anything to be done. Can't watch the vid. My audio system is screwed

Eric,
Thanks. But just for the video?? Haha.

Laura,
PPK = pang poi ki. You should let your bro watch the video too =P I wonder what he will think!

Abubu,
Agreed agreed. But some things must be publicised so that the whole world will know. But I guess the things you wanna say aren't meant for public eyes?

Tiong Yieng,
Thanks thanks. Wow, it's good to know that people still actually frequent my blog.

Sam,
I pity your audio system. Go somewhere where you can watch the video. You will laugh till your stomach and intestines get mixed up with each other. Trust me.
